YEAR'S 'ASHBY MILE' IS CANCELLED (See 'NEWS' below for full story) NEWS
It is with great regret that we have to announce today (25th
August 2009) that this year's 'Mears Ashby Mile' is cancelled. This is due to a lack of entries
for the race. Unfortunately, and depsite many people verbally agreeing to take part, without a substantial number of
people paying upfront it is impossible for us to justify the outlay (on medals, race numbers, etc) when we do not know exactly
how many will turn up.
Commitment to staging the event could leave Mears Ashby
Sports Club (a very small volunteer-run organisation) notably out of pocket if the projected number of people do not turn
up on the day.
We hope you can understand our decision and apologise for any inconvenience this may
have caused. We also wish to thank all of those who have given their continued support.
Please continue to watch
this space, however, because it is hoped that the 'Ashby Mile' will be back next year, along with a 5km race too!

This years event was to have been in aid of the British Heart Foundation
and the Hannah Payne Memorial Trust. All proceeds from the race would be split equally between
these very deserving charities. For further information on the charities' work, please click on their logo.
The race is open to runners of all standards over the age of 12. For further
infomation please click on the 'Race Information' tab. The Mears Ashby Mile
is organised by Mears Ashby Sports Club. Over the last two years we have managed to raise over £600
for good causes.
