Why the ‘Mears Ashby Mile’?

The village is laid out in a square and a lap of the outside roads is almost exactly equal to a mile (to within about 10 yards!). We though this provided a great opportunity for a race that we hope to become a big annual event.

Why are those under 12 not allowed to enter?

This is in the interests of safety (the event is still in its infancy) and because, at present, we only have one race. We do, however, intend to build on our experience and then have a separate junior race (under 16s) next year.

I class myself as a Mears Ashby man or woman yet I don’t comply with the criteria. What can I do?

The criteria are set as a general rule. Other individual circumstances may be considered, however, acceptance will be at the discretion of the Race Committee. If you would like to be considered, please put your case in writing to the Committee.

Why do I have to pay £2 more than some people?

The £2 extra that is paid by non-UK Athletics members is a levy imposed by UK Athletics for holding an event under their rules. All of that additional £2, therefore, goes to UK Athletics. The rest of the fee helps towards the cost of the staging event. Any additional money retained by Mears Ashby Sports Club is used to enhance the sport and recreation facilities in the village, and hopefully stage a bigger and better event next year.
